The best AI visibility tools for tracking ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity

Eleven platforms compared on the engines they actually cover, the prices they actually publish, and the limits you only find after you sign up.

Short answerAI visibility tools run your buyer prompts through assistants like ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity on a schedule and report how often your brand is mentioned and cited versus competitors. Peec AI ($95 a month) is the best value for most teams, Profound suits large enterprises, and Otterly.AI ($29) or ZeroRank ($39) are the cheapest serious starting points.
Key takeaways
  • Published entry prices run from $29 a month (Otterly.AI Lite, 15 prompts) to $300 a month (Scrunch Starter, 350 prompts); Profound publishes no paid prices, only a free trial and custom Enterprise pricing.
  • Engine coverage is the biggest hidden cost: Peec AI includes 3 models per plan, Otterly.AI charges extra for Gemini, AI Mode and Claude, and HubSpot AEO covers only ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
  • The math that matters is prompts x engines x run frequency: 50 prompts on 3 engines run daily is about 4,500 answers a month.
  • Repeated runs rarely return the same brand list (under 1 in 100 in a SparkToro and Gumshoe study), so a tool's single "rank" number means little; mention rate over many runs is the metric to buy for.
  • Suites (Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking, HubSpot) are cheapest if you already pay for them, but their AI modules track fewer prompts or engines than the specialists.

What does AI visibility tracking actually measure?

AI visibility tracking sends a fixed list of prompts to AI assistants on a schedule, stores every answer, and counts how often your brand is named, where, in what tone, and which URLs the engine cited. That gives you AI visibility as a rate rather than a one-off screenshot.

Vendors sell the category under several names (LLM visibility tools, AI search monitoring tools, GEO or AEO platforms), and almost every one reports the same core set: mention rate, citation rate, share of voice against named competitors, average position in the answer, sentiment, and the domains each engine cites. The differences are in which engines you get, how many prompts you can afford to run, how often, and what the tool does beyond reporting (content briefs, crawler logs, shopping data, agents).

If you are new to the measurement side, read how to measure AI visibility first. It covers prompt sets and metrics in detail; this page is about which software to buy.

How do the 11 tools compare on engines and price?

The table below uses only what each vendor publishes on its own pricing or product page. Where a vendor shows no price, we say so. Entry price means the cheapest paid plan, billed monthly unless noted.

The 11 tools, reviewed

The order runs roughly from enterprise platforms to suites to budget tools. It is not a score. Every entry names the limitation we'd want to know before signing.

1. Profound

Profound is the best-funded company in the category. It raised a $96 million Series C at a $1 billion valuation in February 2026, led by Lightspeed, bringing total funding past $155 million, and says it supports more than 700 enterprises including Target, Walmart, Figma and MongoDB2 (Profound). The product goes well past tracking: Agent Analytics shows how AI bots crawl and refer to your pages, Prompt Volumes estimates what people ask, and Shopping tracks SKU-level placement.

Best for
Enterprise brands with several product lines, regions and a team to act on the data.
Engines
Up to 9 on Enterprise: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Copilot, DeepSeek, Claude, AI Overviews and Exa Search. The trial covers ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews1.
Pricing
The pricing page lists a free Trial and custom Enterprise pricing, plus an Agency Growth plan with 400 credits per client workspace. No dollar figures are published.
Standout
Agent Analytics and ChatGPT Shopping tracking, with SSO, SOC 2 and API access on Enterprise.
Limitation
Trial users can't edit the 50 prompts, so you see your category through Profound's prompts and can't test your buyers' own questions. Data history, exports and API are not included in the trial.

2. Peec AI

Peec AI is the tool we'd hand most in-house SEO and content teams tracking one to five brands or markets. Every plan includes unlimited users and daily runs, and the feature list goes deep for the price, though not every feature sits on every plan: source classification, gap analysis by domain and URL, crawl insights from CDN logs, and an ads library showing which prompts carry sponsored placements3.

Its pricing page is also the most upfront in the category about volume. Starter costs $95 a month for 50 prompts and 1 project, and Peec AI does the math for you: 50 prompts on 3 models, run daily, is 4,500 answers a month. Pro is $245 (150 prompts, 2 projects), Advanced is $495 (350 prompts, 5 projects, multi-country, Looker Studio), and Enterprise is custom (Peec AI pricing).

Engines
3 models per plan, chosen from ChatGPT, AI Mode, AI Overviews, Copilot, Gemini, Perplexity and Naver AI. Enterprise tracks up to 13.
The catch
A fourth model is a paid add-on on every plan, and multi-country tracking starts at Advanced.

3. Scrunch

Scrunch pairs tracking with its Agent Experience Platform (AXP), which serves an AI-friendly version of your site to AI agents, so it suits brands that want monitoring and a way to change what agents read from the same vendor. Sitecore acquired Scrunch in June 20265 (Sitecore), which matters if you run Sitecore or care about roadmap independence.

Engine coverage is the broadest of any entry plan here: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Meta on every tier4. Starter is $300 month to month or $250 a month billed annually, for 350 custom prompts, 3 personas, 3 users and 1,000 industry prompts. Growth is $500, or $417 annually, for 700 prompts, and Enterprise is custom (Scrunch pricing).

It's the highest entry price in this roundup, and the pricing page doesn't say which plans include AXP. Get that in writing before you count on it.

4. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

If your team already lives in Semrush, the AI Visibility Toolkit puts AI data next to your keyword data: an AI Visibility Score, competitor positioning, brand sentiment and narrative analysis, daily prompt tracking and an AI search site audit6. The most useful piece is Prompt Research, which works like keyword research for prompts (with topic volume and difficulty), so you can build a prompt set from data instead of guessing one.

Engines
Semrush's help page names ChatGPT and Google AI Mode for prompt tracking and brand performance.
Pricing
$99 a month with 25 tracked prompts; 50 more prompts cost $60 a month. Semrush One plans include 50 to 200 prompts (Semrush).
Watch out for
25 prompts is thin for anything beyond a single product, and Semrush states the toolkit has no free trial.

5. Ahrefs Brand Radar

Brand Radar works from the other direction. Instead of only running your prompts, it shows any brand's visibility across a large prompt index that Ahrefs says is modeled from real searches, and adds YouTube and Reddit mentions7 (Ahrefs). That makes it the fastest way to see who AI mentions in your category before you've written a prompt list, and to benchmark a competitor in minutes.

Ahrefs lists AI Overviews, AI Mode, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini and ChatGPT, with Claude on the pricing page. The Brand Radar AI add-on starts at $199 a month and custom prompt packages start at $50 a month for 2,500 checks, both on top of an Ahrefs subscription (Ahrefs pricing)8. Because index prompts are modeled, they won't match your buyers' exact wording. Pay for custom prompts on the questions that drive revenue.

6. SE Ranking

SE Ranking folds AI tracking into its main SEO plans, which makes it the cheapest way for a small SEO team or agency to get rankings, audits and AI answers on one bill. Core costs $129 a month ($103.20 billed annually) and includes 100 GEO prompts tracked daily across AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity9. Growth, at $279, raises that to 250, and a separate AI Search add-on costs $89 a month (SE Ranking pricing)10.

That's a lot of daily tracking per dollar. Skip it if you need Claude or Copilot, which it doesn't track, or deep source analysis and content actions, where Peec AI and Profound go further.

7. Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI is where many founders, consultants and small teams start, because a tracker can be running the same afternoon. It says more than 30,000 marketers use it (its homepage says 40,000; the FAQ says 30,000)11, and it covers brand monitoring, citation tracking, prompt research, a content audit with crawlability checks, and a public API.

Engines
ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot are included. Gemini, AI Mode and Claude are add-ons.
Pricing
Lite $29 a month (15 prompts), Standard $189 (100 prompts), Premium $489 (400 prompts), Enterprise custom from 1,000 prompts (Otterly.AI pricing). Lite is the lowest paid entry price on this list.
Real cost
On Standard, Gemini and AI Mode are $59 a month each and Claude is $109. Add all three and the $189 plan costs $416.

8. ZeroRank

ZeroRank prices on answers rather than prompts, and you can spend them on any of 17 platforms (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Claude, Copilot, Grok and DeepSeek among them) at whatever frequency you like. Every plan includes unlimited prompts, models, countries and seats, white-label dashboards, an MCP server and a REST API12, which is why agencies on a small budget tend to look at it first.

Starter is $39 a month for up to 2,400 answers and 1 workspace. Growth is $199 (13,500 answers, 10 workspaces), Agency is $499 (31,500 answers, unlimited workspaces), and Enterprise is custom (ZeroRank pricing). Read "unlimited prompts" with the answer cap in mind. ZeroRank's own example has Starter covering 26 prompts a day on 3 models, so every engine you add shrinks the prompt count.

9. HubSpot AEO

For companies already on HubSpot Marketing Hub, HubSpot AEO is the obvious first look, because it puts visibility, sentiment, competitor share of voice and citations inside the CRM, next to the contacts and deals they may influence13. You can track 25 prompts free with no card, and it ranks its recommendations by priority.

Engines
ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity.
Pricing
$50 a month, or $45 a month paid annually, for 25 prompts, with more prompts available to buy (HubSpot).
Gap
No Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Claude or Copilot. If Google's AI answers matter in your market, you'll need a second tool.

10. AthenaHQ

AthenaHQ leans toward action. Its plans bundle a content optimization agent and on-page and off-page recommendations with tracking, and Enterprise adds a knowledge base and what AthenaHQ calls discrepancy detection14. Pricing runs on credits, and one credit equals one AI response.

The free Essential tier (300 credits, $25 starting credit) tracks ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Overviews, Gemini and Copilot, so it's a sensible place to test. Starter, at $295 a month for 3,600 credits, jumps to 11 models by adding AI Mode, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral, the widest model list on any published paid plan here (AthenaHQ pricing). The step from free to $295 is steep, though, and API access and extra credits are add-ons priced through sales.

11. Rankscale

Rankscale also runs on credits, with each engine query costing a fraction of a credit (typically 0.25)15. It suits consultants and small teams who track weekly rather than daily; Rankscale's own example of 50 prompts run weekly comes to 162.5 credits a month.

Engines
ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews, Gemini, DeepSeek, Mistral, Claude and Copilot on paid plans.
Pricing
Essentials from $17 a month (billed yearly only), Pro $99 (1,200 credits), Pro+ $229, Growth $385, Enterprise $780 (Rankscale pricing).
Limitation
Credits make the monthly bill harder to forecast, and the pricing page doesn't list which engines Essentials covers.

How many answers do you actually need?

Work out your monthly answer volume before comparing plans, because vendors price on different units (prompts, answers, credits). The formula is the same everywhere:

answers per month = prompts x engines x runs per month

Example A: 50 prompts x 3 engines x 30 daily runs = 4,500 answers
Example B: 50 prompts x 3 engines x 4 weekly runs = 600 answers
Example C: 150 prompts x 5 engines x 30 daily runs = 22,500 answers

Example A is exactly Peec AI's Starter allowance and would exceed ZeroRank Starter's 2,400 answers. Example B fits easily into a weekly-run plan on Rankscale or ZeroRank. Example C is agency or enterprise territory. If a vendor will not tell you how many answers sit behind a plan, ask; it is the number that decides whether your data is statistically useful.

Our takeDaily runs are worth paying for on a small, high-value prompt set (the 20 to 50 questions that name your category or competitors). For long-tail prompts, weekly runs give you the same trend at a quarter of the cost. Most teams overbuy engines and underbuy prompts: three well-chosen engines across 50 good prompts beat nine engines across 15.

How should you choose an AI visibility tool?

Choose by budget and existing stack first, then by engine coverage. These rules cover most buyers:

  • If you already pay for Semrush, Ahrefs, SE Ranking or HubSpot, start with their AI module for a month. Move to a specialist only if you hit the prompt cap or need an engine they lack.
  • If you are a single brand with under $100 a month, use Otterly.AI Lite, ZeroRank Starter or HubSpot AEO, and keep the prompt set to your 15 to 25 most commercial questions.
  • If you are an in-house team with $100 to $500 a month, Peec AI Starter or Pro is the default pick. Choose Scrunch instead if Claude and Meta coverage matter from day one.
  • If you are an agency, price per client: ZeroRank's workspaces, Peec AI's agency bundles and Profound's Agency Growth plan are built for it. Check white-label and client-level permissions before you migrate.
  • If you are an enterprise with multiple brands, regions and SSO requirements, shortlist Profound, Scrunch Enterprise and Peec AI Enterprise and ask each for answer volumes, data retention and API limits in writing.
  • If Google is most of your market, make sure AI Overviews and AI Mode are on the plan. HubSpot AEO does not cover them, and Semrush's help page names only ChatGPT and AI Mode for prompt tracking.

Before you buy anything, get a free baseline. Our roundup of free one-off AI visibility checkers covers the quick options, and the Arobis AI visibility checker shows whether ChatGPT names your brand for category questions, which tells you whether you have a tracking problem or a visibility problem. If the answer is "it never mentions us", a dashboard will mostly chart zeros until the underlying work is done.

A 7-day trial checklist

Spend the trial checking the data; you'll learn the interface either way. A tool passes if it clears all six:

  1. It lets you load your own prompts (Profound's trial does not).
  2. It shows the raw answer text for each run, so you can spot-check a mention it counted.
  3. Running the same prompt on two days gives mention rates within a plausible band, and the tool says how many runs sit behind each percentage.
  4. It lists the cited URLs per answer, not just domains.
  5. Exports work (CSV or API) on the plan you would buy.
  6. The price for your real prompt count and engine set is written down, including add-ons.

What can't AI search monitoring tools tell you?

They can't give you a stable rank, an unbiased prompt set, or the answer a specific buyer saw. Each of those gaps has a workaround, below.

AI answers change on every run

In a study by SparkToro and Gumshoe.ai, 12 brand-recommendation prompts were run 60 to 100 times each on ChatGPT, Claude and Google's AI. The chance of getting the same brand list twice was under 1 in 100, and the same list in the same order under 0.1%16 (Search Engine Journal). How often a brand appeared was far steadier: in a headphones test, Bose, Sony, Sennheiser and Apple showed up in 55% to 77% of 994 responses. Judge tools on mention rate over many runs, and ignore "you rank #2 in ChatGPT" claims. The study was run with a tracking vendor and was not peer reviewed, but it matches what you will see in any tool's raw data.

You choose the prompts, so you choose the result

Visibility percentages depend entirely on the prompt set. Track branded prompts ("is [brand] good for X") and you will look great; track only broad category prompts and you may look invisible. In the same study, 142 people asked for headphone recommendations in their own words and the prompts had a semantic similarity of just 0.081, so real buyers phrase things very differently from any list you write. Keep tool-suggested prompts separate from prompts taken from sales calls, support tickets and search data, and report them separately.

The tool's answer may not be the buyer's answer

Logged-in users get personalization, memory and location effects that a tracking run does not reproduce, and the SparkToro authors list "whether API results match manual prompts" as an open question. Ask each vendor how it collects answers and for which engines.

A dashboard can't say why a number moved

A rise in mention rate after a page update may come from your change, a competitor's, or a model update. Tools that list the cited URLs per answer help most here, because you can see which sources moved. Pair the tool with server logs (are AI crawlers fetching the page?) and analytics referrals from AI assistants. Our guide to how AI engines choose sources explains what tends to move citations.

Our takeA tracking tool is a thermometer. It will tell you that ChatGPT recommends three competitors and not you; it will not get you recommended. If you want a team to do the content, earned-media and technical work that changes the numbers, that is a services decision, and an agency like Arobis AI (for B2B SaaS) or your own team will still use one of these tools to prove the result.

Comparing against one vendor in particular? Our Profound alternatives page goes head to head on when each tool beats it.

Frequently asked questions

What is an AI visibility tool?

An AI visibility tool sends a fixed list of prompts to AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews on a schedule, then records whether your brand is mentioned, which sources are cited, your position in the answer and the sentiment. Most also benchmark competitors on the same prompts and report share of voice over time.

What is the cheapest AI visibility tool worth paying for?

Among the tools we compared, Otterly.AI Lite at $29 a month (15 prompts) and ZeroRank Starter at $39 a month (up to 2,400 AI answers) are the lowest published paid entry points. AthenaHQ has a free tier with 300 credits. For a single brand tracking 25 to 50 prompts, HubSpot AEO at $50 and Peec AI at $95 are the next step up.

Which AI visibility tools track Claude?

Scrunch lists Claude on all plans. AthenaHQ includes it on Starter, Profound on Enterprise, and Rankscale on its paid plans. ZeroRank offers it among its 17 platforms. Otterly.AI sells Claude as an add-on, priced at $109 a month on its Standard plan. HubSpot AEO and the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit's prompt tracking do not list Claude.

How many prompts should I track?

Start with 30 to 50 prompts per brand: buyer questions about the problem, the category, comparisons against named competitors, and your brand. Fewer than 20 gives noisy averages, because answers change from run to run. Add prompts by topic once you know which clusters move. Agencies should budget prompts for each client separately.

Are AI visibility tool rankings accurate?

Treat position numbers with caution. A SparkToro and Gumshoe study found less than a 1 in 100 chance that ChatGPT or Google's AI returns the same brand list twice for a prompt, and under 0.1% for the same order. How often a brand appears across many runs was far more stable, so judge tools on mention rate over time.

Do I need a paid tool to check AI visibility?

Not to start. You can run 20 buyer prompts by hand in ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity three times each and log mentions in a spreadsheet, or use a free one-off checker. A paid tool earns its cost when you need daily runs, competitor benchmarks, citation data and history across several engines.
