ChatGPT rank trackers: 11 tools that track your brand in ChatGPT, compared

A ChatGPT rank tracker runs your buyer prompts through ChatGPT on a schedule and records whether you're named, where, and which pages it cites. Here's what eleven of them cost, how much ChatGPT data you actually get, and how to tell if the data is real.

Short answerA ChatGPT rank tracker sends a fixed set of prompts to ChatGPT on a schedule and logs whether your brand is mentioned, where it appears, the URLs cited and which competitors show up. Entry prices run from $29 a month (Otterly.AI) to custom enterprise plans. What separates them is ChatGPT answer volume, run frequency and how they collect answers.
Key takeaways
  • There's no stable "rank" in ChatGPT: a SparkToro and Gumshoe study found less than a 1 in 100 chance of the same brand list twice, so buy a tracker for mention rate over many runs.
  • For the entry price, ChatGPT answer volume varies about 100-fold, from roughly 43 a month (Morningscore Lite, 10 prompts weekly) to up to 4,800 (Rankscale Pro, $99).
  • Trackers collect answers either through OpenAI's API with web search or from the ChatGPT app. The app includes things the API doesn't, such as shopping carousels and, on Free and Go plans in the US, ads.
  • ChatGPT showed only 3.10 links per answer in Slate's 1,000-question test, so citation data per prompt is thin; mention tracking carries most of the signal.
  • Otterly.AI and SE Ranking now list ChatGPT ads tracking, a separate measurement from organic mentions.

What does a ChatGPT rank tracker measure?

A ChatGPT rank tracker measures how often and how prominently ChatGPT names your brand across a prompt set you choose. The word "rank" is borrowed from SEO, and it's misleading: ChatGPT doesn't return ten blue links in a fixed order. It writes a different answer on almost every run. In a study by SparkToro and Gumshoe, the chance of getting the same brand list twice for a prompt was under 1 in 100, and the same list in the same order under 0.1%5 (Search Engine Journal).

So a useful tracker reports rates, with the run count shown: mention rate per prompt and prompt group, average position when mentioned, share of voice against named competitors, the URLs ChatGPT cited, and sentiment. If a tool shows "you rank #2" with no run count behind it, treat the number as one sample.

This page covers trackers for ChatGPT specifically. For a multi-engine view, our hub of the best AI visibility tools compares eleven platforms across all engines, and the Perplexity rank tracker comparison covers the engine where citations matter most.

How do ChatGPT trackers collect answers?

There are two ways, and they don't return the same thing. Ask every vendor which one it uses before you trust its numbers.

Through OpenAI's API. OpenAI's Responses API has a web search tool: the model decides whether to search, and the response carries url_citation annotations with each cited URL and where it's used in the text. You can pass an approximate user location (country, city, region)1 (OpenAI API docs). It's clean, structured and cheap to run at volume, but it's the developer product, not the ChatGPT app your buyers use.

From the ChatGPT app. Some vendors run prompts through the consumer interface. Rankability, for example, says it scans "using live web search, the same way your customers do"13. The app is where buyers see shopping carousels, where products are picked by relevance to the query and context such as memory4, and since OpenAI's 2026 ad test, sponsored placements for Free and Go users in the test markets, kept separate from the answer3. The app also passes a general location, derived from IP, to its search providers2, so the vendor's proxy location shapes the results. A logged-out or fresh session is still not a specific buyer's session, since memory and custom instructions change answers for logged-in users.

What you want to knowAPI with web searchChatGPT app

Neither method is wrong. API data is fine for trend lines on software and services prompts. If you sell physical products, or you care about ads next to your category, you need app-based collection.

How do the 11 trackers compare?

Prices are the cheapest paid plan from each vendor's own page, billed monthly unless noted. "ChatGPT capacity" is what that plan gives you for ChatGPT specifically.

Vendors here reprice often. Use the table to shortlist, and confirm the price for your exact prompt count and engine mix on the vendor's page before buying.

How much ChatGPT data do you get for the money?

Compare plans on ChatGPT answers per month, because that's what determines whether a mention rate means anything. Vendors price on prompts, answers or credits, so convert them all:

ChatGPT answers per month = prompts x ChatGPT runs per month

Morningscore Lite 10 prompts x ~4.3 weekly runs = ~43 answers ($69)
Semrush toolkit 25 prompts x 30 daily runs = 750 answers ($99)
Peec AI Starter 50 prompts x 30 daily runs = 1,500 answers ($95, ChatGPT share of 4,500)
SE Ranking Core 100 prompts x 30 daily runs = 3,000 answers ($129)
ZeroRank Starter 2,400 answers, all on ChatGPT = 2,400 answers ($39)
Rankscale Pro 1,200 credits / 0.25 per answer = 4,800 answers ($99)

This is our arithmetic from each vendor's stated limits, assuming a 30-day month and one ChatGPT run per prompt per scheduled check. A rule of thumb from our measurement guide: at 48 runs, a mention rate carries roughly a plus or minus 13 point margin. Below a few hundred ChatGPT answers a month, only trust big moves.

The 11 trackers, reviewed

Each entry covers what the tool does for ChatGPT and the catch we'd want to know before buying.

1. Peec AI

Peec AI is the default we'd suggest for an in-house team that wants ChatGPT plus two other engines with daily runs and enough prompts to segment by product line. Starter covers 50 prompts on 3 models; Pro raises that to 150 and Advanced to 3507 (Peec AI pricing). Its own pricing page spells out the answer math (prompts x models x days), which more vendors should copy.

Price
Starter $95/mo, Pro $245, Advanced $495, Enterprise custom. Weighing it against others? See Peec AI alternatives.
Catch
A fourth model costs extra, so ChatGPT plus Perplexity, AI Overviews and Gemini means an add-on.

2. Profound

Profound is the enterprise pick, and it tracks ChatGPT Shopping placement at the product level. The free trial runs 50 prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews, but the prompts are chosen for your industry and can't be edited8 (Profound pricing). Enterprise is custom and covers up to nine engines, with API access and full history.

Catch
You can't test your own prompts on the trial, and there's no published paid price.

3. SE Ranking

SE Ranking gives the most daily ChatGPT tracking per dollar among the SEO suites: Core includes 100 prompts tracked daily across ChatGPT, AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini and Perplexity9 (SE Ranking pricing). It also sells a separate ChatGPT ads tracker, useful if sponsored placements show up in your category.

Price
Core $129/mo ($103.20 billed annually), Growth $279.
Catch
Source analysis is lighter than the specialist tools.

4. Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit

Semrush's toolkit tracks prompts on ChatGPT and Google AI Mode for $99 a month with 25 prompts, and 50 more prompts cost $60 a month10 (Semrush). Its best feature for ChatGPT work is Prompt Research, which suggests prompts with topic volume, so your set isn't pure guesswork. There's no free trial.

5. Otterly.AI

Otterly.AI is the cheapest serious way to start: Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts tracked daily on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, and every plan lists ChatGPT ads tracking11 (Otterly.AI pricing). Standard ($189) gives 100 prompts. Gemini, AI Mode and Claude are paid add-ons.

Catch
15 prompts is enough for a pilot, not for segmenting by product or prompt type.

6. ZeroRank

ZeroRank sells answers, not prompts, which suits ChatGPT-only tracking: Starter's 2,400 answers a month could cover about 80 prompts daily on ChatGPT alone, or 26 prompts across 3 models, which is ZeroRank's own example12 (ZeroRank pricing). Plans include unlimited prompts, seats and workspaces up to the answer cap, plus white-label dashboards and an API.

Price
Starter $39/mo, Growth $199, Agency $499, Enterprise custom.
Catch
"Unlimited prompts" is bounded by the answer cap; plan your mix before you load 200 prompts.

7. Rankability

Rankability's tracker is built around ChatGPT with live web search, and it's one of the few to say plainly how it collects: it queries ChatGPT "through the same live web search your customers trigger"13 (Rankability). It records mentions, position, cited source URLs and up to 25 competitor brands per scan, and sends volatility alerts when cited sources shift. The $97 Starter plan includes 100 tracked queries, with location-aware scanning.

Catch
It's sold as part of a content and agency stack, so you pay for writing tools you may not use.

8. Morningscore

Morningscore bundles a ChatGPT tracker with its SEO platform. Plans run from $69 a month for 10 prompts to $299 for 2,000, with prompts looked up weekly, and a 14-day trial with no card14 (Morningscore). The Business plan, 100 prompts for $99, is the better value. Weekly runs suit long-tail prompt sets where you need the trend, not daily swings.

9. Rankscale

Rankscale charges credits per engine query, 0.25 credits each for ChatGPT, Perplexity, AI Mode and Gemini in its calculator, so Pro's 1,200 credits for $99 buys up to 4,800 answers15 (Rankscale pricing). That's the largest ChatGPT allowance on this list at around $100. Per dollar, ZeroRank Starter is slightly cheaper (2,400 answers for $39), but it caps out sooner. Pro has a 7-day trial; Essentials starts at $17 a month, billed yearly only.

10. Geoptie

Geoptie has the best free entry point: its ChatGPT rank tracker needs no account or card and covers GPT-4o and GPT-5, including ChatGPT search16 (Geoptie). Paid tracking starts at $41 a month billed annually ($490 a year) for 15 prompts and 2 brands, on any 4 of 7 engines, run daily (Geoptie pricing).

11. HubSpot AEO

HubSpot AEO tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity for $50 a month with 25 prompts, and you can try it free17 (HubSpot). The reason to choose it is the CRM: visibility and share of voice sit next to the contacts and deals. If you're not on HubSpot, you're paying for an integration you won't use.

Not listed separately: Ahrefs Brand Radar, which shows ChatGPT visibility across a large index of prompts Ahrefs models from real searches, as an add-on from $199 a month on top of an Ahrefs plan18. It's the quickest way to see who ChatGPT names in your category before you've written a prompt set.

Which ChatGPT rank tracker should you choose?

  • If you're testing whether ChatGPT tracking is worth it at all, start with Geoptie's free tracker or HubSpot's free 25 prompts, then Otterly.AI Lite at $29.
  • If ChatGPT is the only engine you care about, Rankscale Pro or ZeroRank Starter give the most ChatGPT answers per dollar.
  • If you already pay for Semrush or SE Ranking, use their module first. SE Ranking's 100 daily prompts go further than Semrush's 25.
  • If you're an in-house team covering ChatGPT plus Google's AI, Peec AI Starter is the balanced pick.
  • If you sell physical products, ask for app-based collection and shopping data; Profound tracks ChatGPT Shopping.
  • If you're an agency, price per client workspace: ZeroRank and Geoptie's Professional plan include white-label reports.
  • If Google's AI matters as much as ChatGPT, compare our AI Mode trackers and AI Overview trackers before you pick one tool for both.

Test any ChatGPT tracker in 5 minutes

Before you commit, check that a tracker's data matches what ChatGPT actually says. On a trial day:

  1. Pick 5 prompts from your set, including 2 where the tracker says you're mentioned and 2 where it says you're not.
  2. Run each one 3 times in ChatGPT, logged out or in a Temporary Chat set to unpersonalized, which ignores memory and custom instructions19.
  3. Note whether your brand appears in at least 2 of 3 runs.
  4. Open the tracker's raw answer text for the same prompts and day.

A tracker passes if it agrees with you on at least 4 of 5 prompts and shows the raw answer behind every mention it counted. If it can't show raw answers, you can't audit it, and we'd skip it. If it disagrees on most prompts, ask whether it collects through the API or the app, and in which location.

Our takeMost teams overpay for engines and underpay for ChatGPT volume. ChatGPT links only about three sources per answer (3.10 in Slate's test, with 372 of 1,000 answers carrying none)6, so per-prompt citation data is sparse and the mention rate is the number that moves decisions. Buy enough ChatGPT runs to make that rate stable, show raw answers, and add engines once the ChatGPT numbers are worth reporting.

Can you track ChatGPT rankings for free?

Yes, for a baseline. Run 20 to 40 buyer prompts 3 times each in a logged-out session and log mentions, positions and cited URLs in a sheet. Our guide on how to rank in ChatGPT has the prompt types and logging columns, and the Arobis AI visibility checker gives a free read on whether ChatGPT names your brand for category questions. Pay for a tracker once you need the same prompts on a schedule, history and competitor share of voice. If the tracker keeps reporting zeros, the issue is visibility rather than measurement, and our GEO audit checklist is the place to start.

Frequently asked questions

What is a ChatGPT rank tracker?

A ChatGPT rank tracker is a tool that sends a fixed list of prompts to ChatGPT on a schedule and records whether your brand is mentioned, its position in the answer, the URLs cited and which competitors appear. Over time it reports mention rate and share of voice. Most also track other AI engines such as Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews.

Is there a free ChatGPT rank tracker?

Yes. Geoptie offers a free one-off ChatGPT rank tracker with no account, and HubSpot AEO lets you track 25 prompts free. You can also track by hand: run 20 to 40 buyer prompts three times each in a logged-out ChatGPT session and log mentions and cited URLs. Paid tools add scheduling, history and competitor benchmarks.

Are ChatGPT rank trackers accurate?

They're accurate about what they sampled, but a single result means little. SparkToro and Gumshoe found less than a 1 in 100 chance of ChatGPT returning the same brand list twice. Mention rates across many runs are far steadier. Trust tools that show raw answers and run counts, and check how they collect answers, through the API or the ChatGPT app.

How many prompts should I track in ChatGPT?

Start with 30 to 50 buyer prompts across category, comparison, alternatives, problem and branded questions. What matters for reliable numbers is total ChatGPT answers per month, prompts multiplied by runs. At 48 runs a mention rate has roughly a 13-point margin either way, so aim for several hundred ChatGPT answers a month before reporting small changes.

Can a tracker see ChatGPT ads?

Some can. Otterly.AI lists ChatGPT ads tracking on its plans and SE Ranking sells a ChatGPT ads tracker. Ads only appear in the ChatGPT app for some plans and markets, so a tool that collects through OpenAI's API won't see them. OpenAI says ads are labeled, shown separately and do not influence the organic answer.

What's the difference between a ChatGPT rank tracker and an AI visibility tool?

Mostly scope. A ChatGPT rank tracker focuses on one engine, while AI visibility tools cover several, such as Perplexity, Gemini, Claude and Google's AI features. Many products are both: SE Ranking, Peec AI and Otterly.AI track ChatGPT alongside other engines. If ChatGPT drives most of your AI referrals, buy for ChatGPT answer volume first.
