- Perplexity returned 19.08 links per answer and linked a source on all 1,000 questions in Slate's August 2026 test, against 3.10 for ChatGPT, so it gives far more citation data per prompt.
- Reddit was 46.7% of Perplexity's top 10 cited domains in Profound's 680 million citation dataset, so a tracker that reports community sources separately saves you a lot of manual work.
- Perplexity tracked Google most closely of the engines Ahrefs studied: 28.6% of its cited URLs ranked in Google's top 10 for the prompt.
- Trackers differ on which Perplexity they measure: the default Quick Search in the app, a chosen model, or the Sonar API, which is a separate developer product.
- For the entry price, Perplexity answers per month range from about 215 (LLM Pulse Starter, weekly runs) to up to 4,800 (Rankscale Pro).
What should a Perplexity rank tracker track?
A Perplexity rank tracker should capture the full source list for every answer, with each cited URL and its position, plus brand mentions in the answer text, competitors named and run counts. Citations matter more here than in ChatGPT because Perplexity searches on almost every prompt and shows its sources by default. In Slate's 1,000-question test it returned 19.08 links per answer and linked a source every time4 (Slate). An AskedAbout API test found Perplexity returning 20 citations in 34 of 36 answers8.
That volume changes what "rank" means. Being one of 19 sources is easy compared with ChatGPT's three, so the questions become sharper: which of your URLs gets cited, for which prompts, in which position, and whether the answer text actually names your brand or only uses your page. A tracker that reports "visibility: 40%" without separating mentions from citations is hiding the part of Perplexity data that's most useful.
Perplexity visibility tracker or rank tracker: what's the difference?
None in practice. Vendors use "Perplexity visibility tracker," "Perplexity rank tracker" and "Perplexity brand monitoring" for the same product: scheduled prompts, logged answers, citation and mention metrics. SE Ranking calls its version a Perplexity visibility tracker; Rankability and Keyword.com call theirs rank trackers. Judge them on the criteria below, not the label.
Which Perplexity is the tracker measuring?
Perplexity isn't one surface. Ask every vendor which of these it collects from:
- The app's default mode. Keyword.com says it tracks the default "Quick Search" mode used by the majority of Perplexity's traffic, and that it collects by scraping results rather than through the API9 (Keyword.com). That's the closest match to what a typical user sees.
- Pro Search or a chosen model. Paying users can pick deeper search modes and models, which can retrieve and cite differently. If your buyers are power users, ask whether those modes are tracked.
- The Sonar API. Perplexity's developer API returns answers with a citations array and a search_results list of titles, URLs and dates3 (Perplexity docs). It's structured and cheap at volume, but it's a developer product with its own models, so treat it as a proxy for the app, not a copy.
All three draw on the same index. Perplexity describes it as hundreds of billions of webpages, built by PerplexityBot, with ranking that works on passages within pages rather than whole documents2 (Perplexity). Its crawler docs say PerplexityBot isn't used to train foundation models, while Perplexity-User, which fetches pages for a user's question, generally ignores robots.txt1.

Profound covers Perplexity only on its custom-priced Enterprise plan; its free trial tracks ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews22. The Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit's prompt tracking names ChatGPT and AI Mode, not Perplexity, so we left it out.
How many Perplexity answers do you get per dollar?
Perplexity answers per month = prompts x Perplexity runs per month
LLM Pulse Starter 50 prompts x ~4.3 weekly runs = ~215 (EUR 49)
Otterly.AI Lite 15 prompts x 30 daily runs = 450 ($29)
Geoptie Starter 15 prompts x 30 daily runs = 450 ($41, annual)
Peec AI Starter 50 prompts x 30 daily runs = 1,500 ($95)
ZeroRank Starter 2,400 answers, all on Perplexity = 2,400 ($39)
SE Ranking Core 100 prompts x 30 daily runs = 3,000 ($129)
Rankscale Pro 1,200 credits / 0.25 = 4,800 ($99)
Our arithmetic from each vendor's stated limits, with a 30-day month and one Perplexity run per prompt per check. Because each Perplexity answer carries so many citations, even 450 answers a month gives you thousands of cited URLs to analyze. Prompt coverage matters more here than raw volume: 50 prompts run weekly will tell you more about which pages Perplexity trusts than 15 prompts run daily.
The 11 Perplexity trackers, reviewed
1. Otterly.AI
Otterly.AI includes Perplexity on every plan, alongside ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Microsoft Copilot, with daily tracking. Lite is $29 a month for 15 prompts and Standard $189 for 10011 (Otterly.AI pricing). It's the cheapest way to get daily Perplexity citation data, and a sensible first tool for a small team.
2. Peec AI
Peec AI lets you pick 3 models per plan, and Perplexity is one of the options. Starter is $95 a month for 50 prompts run daily12 (Peec AI pricing). Its source analysis classifies cited domains and URLs, which is where Perplexity's long source lists pay off. Our Peec AI alternatives page compares it head to head.
- Catch
- Perplexity uses one of your three model slots; a fourth model is a paid add-on.
3. SE Ranking
SE Ranking's Perplexity visibility tracker shows what Perplexity says for your queries, tracks links to your site and brand mentions, and compares competitors over time13 (SE Ranking). On the Core plan, $129 a month, 100 prompts are tracked daily across Perplexity, ChatGPT, Gemini, AI Overviews and AI Mode14. Good value if you also need classic rank tracking on the same bill.
4. Keyword.com
Keyword.com is the one vendor here that states both its collection method and its Perplexity mode: it scrapes the default Quick Search results rather than calling the API, and lets you track hourly, daily, weekly or monthly9. It covers brand mentions, sentiment, citations and share of voice. The AI Visibility plan starts at $9.80 a month for 20 credits ($7.83 billed annually), with a 14-day trial and no card10 (Keyword.com pricing).
- Catch
- The pricing page doesn't say how many prompt runs a credit buys, so work out your real cost on the trial.
5. LLM Pulse
LLM Pulse includes Perplexity, ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Gemini on Starter, at EUR 49 a month (about $58) for 50 prompts and 1 project15 (LLM Pulse pricing). Starter collects 50 responses per week per model, so it's a weekly tracker at that tier. Growth (EUR 99) adds sentiment and owned-media tracking, including Reddit.
6. Rankability
Rankability's Perplexity tracker records which sources Perplexity cites for your keywords, with citation history, competitor extraction and volatility alerts, for $97 a month alongside ChatGPT, AI Overviews and Gemini tracking16 (Rankability). Volatility alerts suit Perplexity well, since its source lists shift more visibly than ChatGPT's.
7. Rankscale
Rankscale charges 0.25 credits per Perplexity query in its calculator, so the Pro plan's 1,200 credits for $99 buys up to 4,800 Perplexity answers17 (Rankscale pricing). That's the largest allowance at around $100. Essentials starts at $17 a month, billed yearly only, and Pro has a 7-day trial.
8. ZeroRank
ZeroRank's Starter plan gives 2,400 answers a month for $39, spendable on any of its 17 platforms, Perplexity included, with unlimited prompts up to that cap18 (ZeroRank pricing). Point it all at Perplexity and that's the cheapest answer volume per dollar on this list.
9. Geoptie
Geoptie offers a free one-off Perplexity rank tracker, and paid plans track any 4 of 7 engines per brand, Perplexity included, daily. Starter is $41 a month billed annually ($490 a year) for 15 prompts and 2 brands19 (Geoptie pricing).
10. Scrunch
Scrunch includes Perplexity on every plan, with ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, AI Mode, AI Overviews and Meta. Starter is $300 a month, or $250 billed annually, for 350 custom prompts20 (Scrunch pricing). It's the most expensive entry plan here and worth it only if you want broad engine coverage plus Scrunch's AI-facing site layer.
11. HubSpot AEO
HubSpot AEO tracks Perplexity with ChatGPT and Gemini for $50 a month and 25 prompts, with a free option to start21 (HubSpot). Pick it if your reporting lives in HubSpot. It doesn't cover Google's AI features.
Which Perplexity tracker should you pick?
- If you need to know exactly what typical users see, pick a tracker that collects from the app's default mode and says so. Keyword.com does; ask the others.
- If you're on a tight budget, Otterly.AI Lite gives daily Perplexity data for $29, and ZeroRank Starter gives the most answers per dollar.
- If you want citation analysis by domain and URL, look at Peec AI, which classifies cited sources, and Rankability, which keeps citation history with volatility alerts.
- If you already run SEO in SE Ranking, its Core plan includes Perplexity at 100 daily prompts.
- If Reddit shows up in your citations (it was 46.7% of Perplexity's top 10 cited domains in Profound's data5), make sure the tool lets you filter cited URLs by domain so you can list the threads to work on.
How do you check a Perplexity tracker's data?
Run 5 of your prompts in Perplexity in a fresh, logged-out session, 3 times each, and open the Sources panel every time. Write down your cited URLs and their positions. Then compare with the tracker's raw answers for the same prompts that day. Expect variation; SparkToro and Gumshoe found AI brand lists rarely repeat between runs7. A tracker passes if your URL shows up in its source lists for the same prompts you saw it in, at least 4 times out of 5, and if it shows the full source list rather than a domain count.
Low citation counts across the board usually point to access, not content. Check that PerplexityBot isn't blocked in robots.txt or by your CDN with our robots.txt AI crawler checker, and that your pages answer the question in the first sentence of each section, since Perplexity ranks passages. Our guide on how AI engines choose sources covers Perplexity's index in detail, and the GEO audit checklist turns it into pass/fail checks. Frequently asked questions
What is a Perplexity rank tracker?
A Perplexity rank tracker is a tool that runs a fixed list of prompts through Perplexity on a schedule and records the answer, every cited source and its position, whether your brand is named, and which competitors appear. Over time it reports citation rate, mention rate and share of voice. Most products also track ChatGPT, Gemini and Google's AI features.
How do I track my brand in Perplexity for free?
Run 20 to 40 buyer prompts in Perplexity three times each in a logged-out session, open the Sources panel, and log your cited URLs, their positions and brand mentions in a spreadsheet. Geoptie also offers a free one-off Perplexity tracker, and HubSpot AEO lets you track 25 prompts at no cost across Perplexity, ChatGPT and Gemini.
Why does Perplexity cite my competitors and not me?
Check access first: PerplexityBot must be allowed in robots.txt and not blocked by your CDN, because Perplexity cites from its own index. If access is fine, compare your page with the cited ones. Perplexity ranks passages, so the page whose section answers the question in its first sentence, with a sourced number, usually wins the citation.
Do Perplexity trackers use the API or the app?
It varies, so ask. Keyword.com says it scrapes the app's default Quick Search mode rather than using the API. Others use Perplexity's Sonar API, which returns structured citations and search results but is a separate developer product with its own models. App-based data is closer to what users see; API data is cheaper at volume.
How often should I track Perplexity?
Weekly is enough for most teams, because each Perplexity answer carries around 19 citations and a weekly run on 50 prompts already yields thousands of cited URLs a month. Track daily only for a short list of high-value prompts, such as category and comparison questions that drive pipeline, where you want to catch a lost citation quickly.
Is Perplexity worth tracking if ChatGPT sends more traffic?
Yes, mainly for insight. Perplexity shows its full source list on nearly every answer, so it reveals which pages and domains AI search trusts in your category. Its share of AI referral sessions also grew from 3.1% to 7.3% in Goodie's B2B-heavy panel. Track both, and use Perplexity's citations to decide where to earn mentions.
